If the subculture emerges from inside society, then it is a part of the society. Part of the spectacle. Does the subculture just help let out some steam? Make subjects believe they are promoting change when in fact (just like in Barthes mythology "The World of Wrestling") all that the subculture did was to temporarily alleviate the weight of society to then sink deeper into complacency.
Depressing to see the "romantics" all grow old and normal.
